“Russ is highly experienced and trained former Bellator World Light Heavyweight Champion Liam McGeary”

My name is Russ, I have been training and coaching for over 30 years. Starting with Judo at a very young age, I moved through various martial arts in my teens and carried on through out my life. At 17 I started lifting weights and getting into body building. I love the discipline of hitting they gym and dedicating yourself to lifting heavy metal most days. I used to spend hours in the gym. I started speaking and learning from the guys in the gym who were in their 40’s, 50’s and 60’s and still training. They got me to understand its not the hours in the gym, its smart training that got results. I tried many different modalities and method, but none got me the strength and size that the Heavy Duty system, that Dorian Yates used under the teaching of Mike , ever did. Going form spending 2-3 hours a day in the gym to 1 ½ hours a week and getting insane results!

My passion has always been grappling, and when the first UFC came along, the guys I trained Martial Arts with, Andrew Toporis, Rob Staples and Stuart Macintyre, started playing with the Jiujitsu game. I loved to grapple. I received my Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiujitsu from Roger Gracie and I currently hold a brown belt under Braulio Estima, but I have had the brown too long and will be pursuing my Black Belt this year. I also have a black belt in Freestyle Karate under Topo, Rob and Stuart.

My Grappling was put on hold for a while as I started powerlifting, coached by 7 time world Super Heavyweight Champion and multiple record holder, Peter Tregloan. My strength went insane. After competing for a few years I came back to Jiujiutsu, although my new strength was great, my size limited my grappling skills. I changed my whole outlook on training. I ditched the powerlifting approach and looked at other training modalities. Kettlebells, bodyweight, isometrics, even yoga changed my shape and my mobility. My grappling improved every week. I competed in many BJJ competitions including the European IBJJF twice. I was also coaching MMA and BJJ athletes in Strength and Conditioning and holding regular Kettlebell classes for the athletes. After the powerlifting I also did a bit of Pro-Wrestling for a couple of years!

Since then, I have studied and certified in training methods that helped me, so I could pass on the information. I decided to do my Personal Trainer certification so I could teach people the methods. I also certified as a Sports Massage Therapist, as it seemed to naturally follow on from the PT.

To date, I hold these qualifications:

• Personal Trainer Lvl 3
• Sports Massage Therapist Lvl 3
• ELDOA Spinal Decompression
• DSW Advanced Kettlebell Instructor
• Animal Flow Certified Instructor

Now I am on a new journey into health and fitness. I found the power of breath!! I wish I had found this in my early Jiujitsu years. I studied and became a Certified and Licensed instructor in the Wim Hof Method, a powerful technique to reduce stress, anxiety, depression, and control chronic pain and auto-immune disorders. As breath became a huge part of my life, I studied more and more, becoming a Buteyko Clinical Certified Coach and XPT Performance Breathing Coach. Up till now I have coached Olympic athletes, stunt men, people with chronic illness, MS, depression, athletes and more with the Wim Hof Method with profound, life changing results!!

I now focus on teaching people to breathe correctly and using that as part of their fitness program. I want to help people move and be strong into later life. The beach body is only for a season, longevity is for life.

I am currently developing a primal movements system which some of you reading this may have the pleasure(?!) of trying out soon, and I have more certifications earmarked for this year which will bring everything I teach together nicely. I am a huge advocator for bodyweight training, kettlebells, isometrics and primal movements. Primal movements work through the cross-body slings of the human body. Primal movements are exercise modalities designed to increase mobility, flexibility, stability, power, endurance, skills, and neuromuscular development.

If you are looking for something different to the rest, that will improve your breathing, improve your fitness, your mobility and strength, contact me for a chat. Consultations are free.
